The following link to the Mayo Clinic site provides information on how to prepare and what to do during an emergency situation if you have diabetes. Many of these suggestions apply to other health related issues.

RWNA Emergency Preparedness Committee suggests that each family keep the following items ready in a easy-to-carry box, preferably located near an exit.
Store the following in a sealable, plastic bag:In addition, keep
- List of contacts: names, addresses and phone numbers of people you may want to contact (friends, family, insurance company)
- Health Information: For each family member, create a list which includes Doctor's names, phone numbers, health ID card number, and list of medications (may want to include details such as prescription number, dosages, how often to take...)
- Extra prescription medications (for a week?)
- OTC medicines
- Water (for 3 days - one gallon per day per person)
- Water purification? examples ...
- Food (for 3 days)
- Flashlight(s) with batteries (or hand crank or shake versions)
- Portable radio with batteries (or hand crank version)
- First aid kit
- Sanitation supplies (soap, toilet tissue...)
- Miscellaneous
- manual can opener
- matches / butane lighter
- extra set of glasses,
Perhaps in another box
- Blankets
- Clothing
